This will be the second such event of the season, following a highly enjoyable evening before the start of the campaign back in late July. Then, manager Gary Elphick and first team coach Jon Meeney were joined by captain Jack Dixon to field a wide variety of questions from the audience.
Their optimism about the team’s chances of adjusting to a higher level has so far been more than justified, as United have climbed the Isthmian League Premier Division table towards the playoff places on the back of some strong defensive performances. Narrow defeats to some of the league’s top sides have seen them drop down into mid-table, but Elphick and his players will be hoping to take advantage of a series of home games in front of United’s large and loud support in the run-up to Christmas.
While the exact panel for next week’s event is yet to be confirmed, members of both coaching and playing staff will again be present to chat with supporters and answer questions about how things are progressing on the pitch and the training ground.
It’ll also be an opportunity for constructive discussion of off-field matters, including the vital question of where the team will be playing its football in the future. Do the club’s plans now involve modernisation of the Pilot Field or are other alternatives being looked at? Chairman Billy Wood will be there to talk with his usual candour and good humour, and he’ll be joined by co-owner Daren Burney to give insight into the latest state of play.
The event is hosted by the Hastings United Independent Supporters Club and takes place at the Pilot Bar, at the Continental Pilot Field on Elphinstone Road. The bar will be open for drinks and refreshments. Doors will open at 7pm for a 7.30 start.
